This is very cool. I lived in Nagai and started Kindergarten there in 1967. Had my class picture taken with my dog Suki that would follow me to school sometimes. We actually lived down by the beach and rode our bikes or walked up the hill to school. I loved the beach and having my own tidal pool for a swimming pool. I also went to Callighan School before we came back to the states. I feel so helpless for the people of Japan and what they are going thru right now. Thanks for the memories and hopeful for a quick recovery.

Your honmoku pics are amazing. I grew up here as a child. Are you willing to share the jpegs you are showing of honmoku in the viewer? Many Thanks for the memories.

I lived and grew up in Nagai hts… I think we live there the longest and still had a house on the beach during the closing of Nagai… great place to grow up…

My family lived in Nagai Heights from January, 1960 to February, 1964. It was a continual adventure the entire time. We lived in the last house on the left side of the runway where it curved around a large open space directly above the rocky beach. The trail down to the beach was close by. I attended Callaghan School until Sixth grade when my class was transferred to the Sullivans School on the base. I had so much freedom to explore my surroundings. It was a perpetual adventure for us. Leaving Japan after four years was a let down. I still occasionally dream I am back on the rocky beach below the bluffs we lived on. I also hear from old friends I palled around with in those days. Living there set the stage for my adult life of exploring fascinating places along the back roads of the world. What a place Nagai was!
